Improvements to this corridor are varied, depending on the segment. Bond issue Phase One includes design for the following projects (Ward 2):
Garland Ave. to Gregg Ave.: Pedestrian improvements, to connect retail and restaurant areas on Garland Avenue to residential areas and the Razorback Greenway, and pedestrian safety improvements at the Garland/North intersection.
Highway 71B Intersection: Left turn lane for west bound traffic east of 71B, and general intersection alignment and signalization upgrades to reduce congestion.
Hwy 71B to Mission Blvd: Pedestrian improvements; intersection improvements at Hillcrest to eliminate the 3-way stop at the intersection (sight distance improvements or signalization).
Why is It Important?
This corridor is an important east-west route for commuter traffic, that runs through existing neighborhoods; a mix of congestion relief and capacity improvements, and pedestrian and bicycle facilities will address issues for all users.
What is the Current Status?
Crafton, Tull and Associates was recently selected for the design of the Mission/North intersection and the trail along Mission as part of this corridor. A scope and fee will be developed for the contract and will be presented to the City Council in June or July of 2020.
When Will it be Completed?
To Be Determined.
How is it Funded?
Funding for the project comes from the Bond issue that voters approved in April 2019.
