BusinessWeek magazine recently named Fayetteville as the best city in Arkansas for starting a new business, and Fayetteville has consistently been nationally ranked as one of the top places to live, work, and play. Forbes Magazine heralded Fayetteville as No.8 in the Best Places for Business and Careers and we were ranked No. 4 by Inc. Magazine's Best Cities for Doing Business. We have academic, creative arts, shopping, small business, corporate business, healthcare, and green initiative economies.
Factors such as affordability, availability of talent, existence of a thriving business community, educational opportunities, advanced research facilities, a healthy economy, a vibrant community spirit, effective community design infrastructure, and quality of life continue to make Fayetteville appealing for businesses and their employees. We have several outdoor activities that are also appealing to businesses that relocate here, such as adventure races, marathons, fishing and canoeing, bicycle races, and nature walks. Also, a historically strong creative economy rests expressively in the soul of our city. We offer a lively local music scene in the Dickson Street Entertainment District, improv comedy, Broadway plays at the Walton Arts Center, art galleries, films, indoor and outdoor concerts, culinary art, numerous festivals, and more.
We are known for our high quality healthcare system, including the University of Arkansas Medical School-Northwest and the outstanding Washington Regional Medical Center. Moreover, Fayetteville schools are ranked amongst the best in the nation by Expansion Management and are the regional leader in the number of National Merit Scholars and awards for student publications each year. Fayetteville Public schools were the first public school system to be profiled by the Discovery Channel's "Champions of Industry." Our schools were also ranked on Sports Illustrated's Top 20 athletic programs in the nation. But, many know Fayetteville as the home of the University of Arkansas, the largest and most distinguished institution of higher learning in the state.
The accessibility of Fayetteville and its overall location is a strong contributor to Fayetteville and all of Northwest Arkansas being one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation. Highway I-540 runs through Fayetteville and provides a scenic highway to one of the most important and used highways in the United States, I-40. Fayetteville is also home of the flagship university of the state of Arkansas, and three of the World's largest employers are headquartered in Northwest Arkansas-Tyson Foods, Walmart, and J.B. Hunt. When it comes to fun, learning, innovation, nature, creativity, love, respect, diversity, family, equality, and community, we mean business.
