About The City of Fayetteville Animal Shelter

We provide an efficiently-run, sanitary, and humane facility for the handling of animals.  Funds provided by the City of Fayetteville are supplemented by public donations.  If you have lost or found a pet, please call us at 479-444-3456 to report the animal lost or found so that we may be able to reconnect them with the owner.  If you wish to adopt a dog or cat (puppy or kitten), please come and visit our Shelter and see the pets we have available.

For emergency services outside our normal hours of operation, please call the Fayetteville Police Department at 479-587-3555.  A dispatcher will take your information and an Animal Services Officer will return your call. We have an Animal Services Officer on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Please note that we are only able to respond to emergency calls outside of regular hours.

Fayetteville Animal Services is one of only a few municipalities in the state of Arkansas to employ a full-time veterinarian.  The veterinarian provides emergency medical services to the lost and stray animals along with providing medical care to the animals housed at the shelter. Rabies vaccinations along with microchips are given to each animal adopted. Animal Services also offers rabies vaccination and microchipping clinics to the public throughout the year. Because we have a full-time veterinarian, the City of Fayetteville is pleased to be able to provide low cost spay/neuter services for $20 and makes sure all adoptable pets are sterilized upon adoption.  Call 479-444-3456 for more information regarding the clinics and fees.

We hope you get involved at the Animal Shelter, either to adopt a new pet, volunteer, or donate to the cause of finding homes for homeless animals.  Stay up-to-date with everything that's going on at the shelter with our Facebook page.  Like us and receive updates on shelter animals, foster care needs, and volunteer opportunities.

Opportunities are available for volunteers at the shelter, in the office and at special events. We need people to walk dogs, socialize cats, and generally spread awareness about what we do. If you wish to volunteer with the Animal Shelter, please download a volunteer application. Link to the application can be found on the right hand side of this page and e-mail it to Animal Services or stop by the shelter to pick up or drop off an application. For more information, contact Animal Services at 479-444-3456.

You can also become a foster parent for the Shelter. Foster parents will bring animals into their homes to care for them while trying to find a forever home for that animal. This gives us more space and you get to take an active part in our adoption process.

If you don’t have the time to devote to being a foster parent, you might consider our Adoption Advocate program.  Being an Adoption Advocate can take many forms, but the main purpose is to help a particular pet find a home.  You can do this by posting the pet on social media sites, sharing the pet’s details with your friends, family, and co-workers or even checking the pet out of the Shelter to attend an event, like an intramural sporting activity or company picnic.  By advocating for a pet, you are giving them a voice and a better chance at finding a loving home much faster.
