The Adoption Process and Fees

If you wish to adopt an animal, come to the Shelter and complete an adoption application. There is a processing period to allow us time to consider the application, check references, and obtain your landlord's approval (if applicable). This waiting period also allows you time to thoroughly consider the responsibilities of pet ownership, and it allows you the time to purchase the necessary pet supplies that will be needed to properly care for your new pet.

Adoption applications may be downloaded and printed, but you must have a specific animal in mind before turning it in.  You may also email an adoption application to Animal Services.  Animal Services staff will notify you within 48 hours of your application status after you have submitted your adoption application.

If you are approved for pet adoption, there is an adoption fee that is based on the age of the animal.

Animals under five years old - $60
Animals five to ten years old - $30
Animals over five years old - No adoption fee

  • Your adoption fee will cover the following services, valued at over $250.
  • - Spay or neuter
  • - Rabies vaccination
  • - First year's city animal license
  • - Microchip installation
  • - Boster shots (DAPP2V for dogs and FVRCP for cats)
  • - Dogs are tested for heartworms
  • - Cats are tested for feline lukemia
  • - Free 5lb bag of Hill's Science Diet pet food
  • - Free behavior and training advice
  • - Six free training classes by Dogtastic

  • Animals adopted from the Shelter may not be sold, given away, or abandoned. Should you not wish to keep your adopted pet it must be returned to the Shelter.  If you have questions about the adoption process or Fayetteville Animal Services, please contact us or call (479)444-3456.
