Adoptions

The Adoption Process and Fees

If you wish to adopt an animal, come to the Shelter and complete an adoption application. There is a processing period to allow us time to consider the application, check references, and obtain your landlord's approval (if applicable). This waiting period also allows you time to thoroughly consider the responsibilities of pet ownership, and it allows you the time to purchase the necessary pet supplies that will be needed to properly care for your new pet.

After you have submitted your adoption application, Animal Services staff will notify you within 48 hours of your application status (approved or denied).

If you are approved for pet adoption, there is a $60.00 adoption fee. Your adoption fee pays for the following services:

  • Required "First Shots" and de-worming for puppies and kittens
  • Rabies vaccination
  • Spay or neuter
  • First year's city animal license
  • Microchip implant (an additional fee of $6.50 is required to register your pet's microchip nationally)
  •  Free 5lb bag of Hill's Science Diet pet food
  • Free behavior and training advice

Animals adopted from the Shelter may not be sold, given away, or abandoned. Unwanted animals should be returned to the shelter.
