The Fayetteville Executive Airport is located 3 miles south of the town center in Fayetteville. In 1936 Drake Field was established in honor of Dr. Noah Drake who donated $3,500.00 to purchase the land that was used to construct an airport for Fayetteville. Later the original parcel was sold and the money used to construct the airport on the present site. Today Fayetteville Municipal Airport has a 6006 foot long and 100 foot wide runway fully equipped for visual and instrument operations.

Most recently, projects were completed to rejuvenate the runway and widen and strengthen the taxiways. Other new construction includes a 18,750 square foot, multipurpose hangar, a new executive ramp area and a new eight unit twin size T Hangar. The Ozark Military Museum recently relocated from Springdale to Fayetteville and has constructed a new display hangar near the Arkansas Air Museum.

Planned projects include additional T Hangars, mini-corporate hangars, and additional multipurpose hangars. A new taxiway and parking ramp was completed in 2006 for the Forest Service to support a fire base at the airport. At this writing, there are more than 80 based aircraft at Fayetteville Drake. Many are located in the T Hangars but others are corporate style, cabin class aircraft. Superior Industries, the University of Arkansas, and Flying Investments all operate cabin class aircraft.
