Active Transportation Advisory Committee

The Active Transportation Advisory Committee, formally know as the Sidewalk and Trails Task Force, and also formerly known as The Sidewalk and Trails Advisory Committee, was created by Resolution No. 71-01 on June 5, 2001.  At the July 15, 2003 City Council Meeting Resolution No. 102-03 was passed changing the name of the committee to "Sidewalk and Trails Task Force".  At the August 3, 2010 City Council meeting Ordinance No. 5343 was passed changing the name of the committee to "Active Transportation Advisory Committee".  The purpose of the task force is to review public comment, and advise City Staff on the prioritization and land acquisition/easements for sidewalks and trails within our City.  They are also responsible for adopting Sidewalk and Trails Master Plans.  Recommendations relating to trails are forwarded to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.  Recommendations relating to sidewalks are forwarded to the Transportation Division.

Terms

Members shall serve two-year terms.  City Council, Planning Commission, and Parks & Recreation Advisory Board representatives may serve as long as they retain membership on their sponsoring body. At the first regularly scheduled committee meeting of each calendar year, the voting members of the committee shall, by a simple majority, elect from among themselves a Chair and Vice Chair.

Membership

The committee is comprised of eight (8) voting members and seven (7) non-voting staff/support members as follows:

  • One City Council member
  • One Planning Commission member
  • One Parks and Recreation Advisory Board member
  • Five Community/Citizens-at-Large members shall be qualified electors residing in the City of Fayetteville, and appointed by the City Council, at least one (1) of whom shall represent a bicycle advocacy organization
  • Five non-voting staff/support representing the City of Fayetteville: Transportation Division, Parks and Recreation Division, Fayetteville Police Department, Planning Division, and Information Technology Divisions
  • One non-voting Washington County Planning Staff representative
  • One non-voting Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission representative

Vacancies are filled by appointment from the governing body of the City.

Meeting Times

The Committee meets quarterly on the second Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Room 326 of the City Administration Building.
