Parks and Recreation Advisory Board

Description

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) was created by Ordinance No. 1526 on January 3, 1967, to act in an advisory capacity to the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Mayor, and City Council on all policy matters pertaining to the Parks and Recreation Department activities.  PRAB members work in the public interest and speak for the general community.  The duty of the Board members is to stimulate and encourage communication with all members of the community to ensure that programs, goals, and objectives are consistent with community needs and desires.  Annually, the Parks and Recreation Advisory  Board develops a suggested work program and operating budget to be submitted to the City by November of each year for the subsequent year.  The Parks Board also recommends priorities for capital improvements and means for financing the same, and prepares an annual progress report on parks and recreation activities.

Terms

Staggered two-year terms, ending December 31.

Membership

The Board shall be composed of eight members as follows:

• Eight members from the public-at-large

Appointment

Vacancies are filled by appointment by the governing body

of the City.

 A weekly meetings list is prepared by the City Clerk’s office which is distributed to the press and posted on the City’s web site: www.accessfayetteville.org

Meeting Times

The Board meets on the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Room 326 of the City Administration Building. In addition to the regularly scheduled Board meetings, there are committee meetings that occur on a regular basis.
