Question
Answer
A Letter of Map Amendment (LOMA) is an official amendment to an effective Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) that may be issued when a property owner provides additional technical information from a surveyor, such as ground elevation relative to the Base Flood Elevation (BFE), Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), and the building. Lenders may waive the flood insurance requirement if the LOMA documents indicate that the building is on ground above the mapped floodplain.
