Happy Hollow Road.  The tour will showcase how materials are collected for trash disposal, recycling programs and how materials are composted through the City’s Composting Program.  Participants will receive promotional items for attending so come learn about what happens to your recycling and trash materials and celebrate Earth Day with us!

Compost Facility Hours.   The City’s Compost Facility at 1708 S. Armstrong Avenue is open during normal operating hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.   The site will be open on Saturday, April 5th and Saturday, April 12th from 8:00 a.m. to noon.  The site is now open the first two Saturdays of each month through October.  Residents of Fayetteville are allowed to drop off brush, leaves or grass during these hours but need to bring a recent water bill showing solid waste charges and proof of residency to drop off yard waste for free.  Commercial landscapers and contractors are allowed to use the site for drop off purposes and normal fees apply.

Compost Distribution.   Screened compost is available at this time until supplies last.  Only Fayetteville residents are allowed to purchase the compost and must show proof of residency through their water bill.  No commercial customers or apartments are allowed to receive compost.  Please bring a copy of a recent water bill showing solid waste charges for proof of residency.  Residents will only be allowed to purchase one scoop for $20 plus tax when the compost is available. One scoop is approximately 2 1/2 cubic yards or enough to fill the bed of a regular size pick-up truck.  Limiting to one scoop allows a chance for most residents to purchase the compost should they desire.

Mulch Distribution.   Mulch will be made available during normal operating hours (see above) while supplies last.  The fee for mulch is $10 per scoop (2 1/2 cubic yards) and is available to anyone.

Transfer Station Hours.    The City’s Transfer Station for the disposal of solid waste is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., excluding holidays.  The fees for disposal are $43.85 per ton, $28.00 minimum, or $6 per bag plus tax.

Recycling Drop-Off Information.   The Recycling and Trash Collection Division operates two Recycling Drop-Off Centers.  The first is located just off 15th Street at 1420 S. Happy Hollow Road.  This site is open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week to provide convenient recycling options.  The second site is the newly opened Marion Orton Recycling Drop-Off Center located at 735 W. North Street. The hours of operation for this site are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 6 am to 5 pm.  On Thursdays, the site is opened from 6 am to 7 pm.  The site is closed on Sundays and also on City holidays.
