Mayor Lioneld Jordan will proclaim May 11th - 15th as National Bike to Work Week with the reading of a proclamation at 10:00 am on May 9th at the Town Center Plaza. A guided bike ride on Scull Creek Trail will follow the proclamation.
The Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks (BCO) will also announce the Bicycle Commuter Challenge that will take place May 11th - 15th. Prizes will be awarded for the businesses who logs the most miles on bikes. For more information on the Bicycle Commuter Challenge contact Laura Kelly at 521-4619 or bco@bconwa.com.
The Bicycle Commuter Challenge helps promote bicycle commuting by encouraging employees, management and owners to use bicycles to get to work. This is a friendly competition where groups will have a chance to win prizes and recognition in supporting a sustainable alternative to automobiles.
The City of Fayetteville will be participating in the Bike to Work Week Challenge. City employees will compete with businesses, non-profits, and government entities all over Northwest Arkansas to determine who logs the most commuter miles on bikes.
On Friday, May 15th, the City of Fayetteville Parks & Recreation and University of Arkansas bike commuters will meet at Arsaga's on Gregg Ave for an end of week group ride and celebration. Contact Alison Jumper at 444-3469 for additional information.
Anyone that is interested in biking to work on a more regular basis are invited to join the City's Bike to Work group at Jammin' Java on the last Friday of every month (7:15 a.m. sharp!).
