C and L Landfill Corrective Action
Remediation of the former C and L landfill located off of Cato Springs Road has begun. The site is located adjacent to the Regional Park land and below Mount Kessler. The project is being managed by Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) and is utilizing the Landfill Post Closure Trust Fund. This funding source was established by state law in 1991, and fees were levied on landfill operators. The C and L landfill is the first project to utilize these funds for landfill corrective action at a cost of $3.8 million. Work is anticipated to be complete by the end of the year.
Large trucks will be hauling material into the site along Judge Cummings Road in the coming weeks as part of the corrective action. The City of Fayetteville and ADEQ urge the public to use extreme caution along Judge Cummings Road during the construction activities.
