City of Fayetteville and University of Arkansas SIFE Team Partner for Project L.I.G.H.T.S.
02/09/2009
Mayor Lioneld Jordan is pleased to announce that on February 14, 2009 the City of Fayetteville, the Chamber of Commerce and the University of Arkansas Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team will partner to initiate Project L.I.G.H.T.S. (Lighting Initiative Giving Hope Through Sustainability).
Project L.I.G.H.T.S. will include the installation of energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs throughout Hillcrest Towers; a low-income apartment building operated by the Fayetteville Housing Authority. The installation of the light bulbs will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and should last until around 11:00 a.m.
The U of A SIFE Team will then monitor the utility bills of Hillcrest Towers to better understand the impact of the light bulb exchange with the intention to expand Project L.I.G.H.T.S. to other low-income housing locations throughout Fayetteville.
Mayor Jordan and the City of Fayetteville are committed to pursuing initiatives that impact the social, environmental and economic well-being of the community. Project L.I.G.H.T.S. provides an opportunity for the reduction of electricity consumption and environmental footprint of low-income housing residents; a sector often overlooked in sustainability initiatives.
The City of Fayetteville is also excited about this first-time partnership with the University of Arkansas SIFE Team, and looks forward to the opportunity to pursue similar projects in the future.
