Ribbon Cutting for New Traffic Light on Martin Luther King Blvd

05/07/2009

The City of Fayetteville will celebrate the newly installed traffic light on Martin Luther King Blvd. and South Garland Ave. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009. This intersection is in front of Fayetteville High School (FHS) and near the location of a crosswalk frequently used by FHS students.

In recent years, crossing MLK Blvd. in this area has become dangerous, especially for high school and university students. The Fayetteville Police Department reports that there have been 14 accidents in this area from January 2006 to December 2008. The new traffic light will increase safety for Fayetteville High School students.

Members of the Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day Committee have been instrumental in getting this light and will be joining Mayor Jordan for the celebration, in addition to Fayetteville School District staff.
