Arkansas Municipal League Honors Fayetteville Clerk Treasurer Sondra Smith at 80th Convention


The Arkansas Municipal League (AML), at its 80th Convention held June 18-20 in Little Rock, honored City Clerk Treasurer Sondra Smith of Fayetteville, Arkansas, with the Adrian L. White Municipal Leadership Award. The award is presented to municipal officials who have served with distinction and dedication to their cities and the Municipal League’s boards, councils, or committees for six years.  The City of Fayetteville thanks City Clerk Treasurer Sondra Smith for her public service and congratulates her on this statewide award.     

The award is named in honor of White, who was mayor of Pocahontas from 1967-1974 and a former Municipal League president and vice president.  The Arkansas Municipal League is a service and advocacy organization for the municipalities of Arkansas. The League has a voluntary membership comprised of all 500 cities and towns in the state and was created to assist cities with information and representation in the public affairs of our state and nation.                                                                    

Sondra Smith has served as Municipal Clerk Treasurer for Fayetteville for 11 years and served as the 2013-2014 President of the Arkansas City Clerks, Recorders, and Treasurers Association (ACCRTA).  Over her tenure with ACCRTA, Smith has served on numerous committees, including the Scholarship, Mentor, Education, Membership Development, Nominations/Elections, Clerk of the Year, and Education Review Committees; as well as service as Chair of the Nominating/Elections and Clerk of the Year Committees.  Other committee service includes the Firemen’s Pension & Board of Trustees, Policemen’s Pension & Board of Trustees, AML Large First Class Cities Advisory Council, AML Public Safety Advisory Council, AML Arkansas Workers’ Compensation Committee, AML Annual Planning Meeting, and attendance and coordination of Municipal Clerks Institute Workshops and Conferences.  Smith has served as an instructor for Arkansas Municipal Clerks since 2006 and has participated in regional and district City Clerk Treasurer meetings.
