The City of Fayetteville will celebrate the newly installed traffic light on Martin Luther King Blvd. and South Garland Ave. with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2009. This intersection is in front of Fayetteville High School (FHS) and near the location of a crosswalk frequently used by FHS students.
It is an honor for the City of Fayetteville to be hosting the Rotary Club International Friendship Team from Thailand today, May 7 at 11:00 am. The Mayor will present lapel pin "Keys to the City" to the six members of this team. The purpose of the Rotary Club International Friendship Program is to advance international harmony and understanding. Mayor Jordan is pleased to welcome these visitors to our City and to present them with these small tokens of our friendship.
Mayor Lioneld Jordan extends congratulations and support to the Owl Creek School Odyssey of the Mind team. Mayor Jordan learned about the team of sixth-graders and their upcoming trip to the World Finals at Iowa State University, at the Farmer's Market last Saturday. The team advanced through regional and state competitions to qualify for the World Finals in Ames, Iowa, on May 27-31.
Mayor Lioneld Jordan will present a proclamation to Brent and Becky Heath this Saturday, April 18th at 8:30 a.m. in the area of the raised flower bed at One West Mountain. Brent and Becky have donated tens of thousand of bulbs to the City of Fayetteville through the Fayetteville in Bloom program. The bulbs have been planted throughout the city, including at the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. Many of the bulbs were planted by volunteers where the public can enjoy them and have been on display over the last few weeks.
Woolsey Wet Prairie, the wetlands mitigation site developed as part of the Wastewater System Improvement Project, has been selected as one of five finalists for the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) - Arkansas Environmental Stewardship Award (ENVY Award).The project was nominated under the Environmental Improvement or Enhancement category.

At the April 14, 2009 City Council Agenda session, Mayor Lioneld Jordan submitted to the City Council a resolution to approve a contract with James Lee Witt Associates to provide federal legislation consulting services to the City of Fayetteville. This item will be discussed at the next City Council meeting to be held on April 21, 2009.

Mayor Lioneld Jordan has announced his selection of Don Marr as his new Chief of Staff. Mayor Jordan stated that after reviewing the applications, many of which were impressive, he selected Marr based on qualifications and experience.
Mayor Lioneld Jordan has decided, and Acting Chief of Police Greg Tabor has agreed, that Chief Tabor will remain Acting Chief of Police for the City of Fayetteville until further notice.
The first annual Fayetteville Sustainability Summit will be Friday October 10, 2008 at the Fayetteville Town Center. The event will provide attendees an opportunity to learn how the City of Fayetteville, its business partners and its corporate citizens are leading the way in sustainable initiatives. There will also be opportunities for the public to learn how they can make their homes or businesses cleaner and greener and save money doing it.
Mayor Coody announced today the first annual Fayetteville Sustainability Summit scheduled for Friday October 10, 2008 at the Fayetteville Town Center. Coody described the event as an opportunity for our residents, business leaders, and regional partners to make better informed purchasing and consumption decisions in an effort to reduce energy consumption and our impact on the environment.

For the second consecutive year, the City of Fayetteville Fleet Department was named among the 100 Best Fleets in North America. A panel of fleet experts identified key characteristics of excellent fleet operations to use as criteria for the award.
Fayetteville Parks and Recreation has been selected for two awards by the Southwest region of the National Recreation and Parks Association. FAYETTEVILLE, AR - There may be a battle brewing in your backyard between your trees and your grass. Trees and turf tend to be mutually exclusive - you won't see many trees growing in the prairies or grasslands, and grass is uncommon on the forest floor.
On Monday June 25 at the 75th Annual United States Conference of Mayors, the City of Fayetteville was awarded first place in the small cities category for the very first Mayors’ Climate Protection Award sponsored by the USCM and Wal-Mart. Hundreds of cities competed for the award which Fayetteville won for the City’s alternative trails and transportation master plan also known as the FATT plan.
