Fruit Rootin'! - Community Orchard Ground Breaking & Workshop

Ground Breaking + Workshop

The City of Fayetteville Parks & Recreation invites the community to participate in Fruit Rootin’!, held Thursday, February 20, at 1:00pm.

Fruit Rootin’! is the kick-off event for the YRCC Community Orchard at 240 E. Rock Street.  Established at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center (YRCC), the small orchard will be a resource for the community through fruit harvesting, work days, and educational opportunities.  The orchard will be planted next to the established Kid Crops Youth Gardening program at the YRCC.

After a brief welcome and introduction, the public is welcome to participate in a workshop called Planting a Fruit Tree & 1st Year Care with Guy Ames, Horticulturist, National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT).  This workshop will lead the planting effort of 12 small fruit trees.  Bring yourself, bring your neighbors, and let’s plant community apple, pear, and pecan trees!  Tools and a limited number of gloves will be provided for volunteers.
