Park Planning and Urban Forestry
To plan and meet all recreational needs of the citizens by designing and constructing quality projects using sustainable methodologies and techniques. To protect and nurture Fayetteville's natural resources by acquiring land, preserving and restoring sensitive ecosystems.
The Park Planning and Urban Forestry Division is responsible for the design and construction of Capital Improvement Projects for the Parks and Recreation Department. This includes creating conceptual master plans, contruction drawings and specifications for new park development as well as existing park renovations. The Park Planning staff administers and enforces the Park Land Dedication Ordinance (UDC Chapter 166.04 B) which includes working with developers to acquire the best possible park land, where needed, as recommended by the Parks and Recreation 10 Year Master Plan and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The Urban Forester administers and enforces the Tree Preservation and Protection Ordinance (UDC Chapter 167) and the Landscape Regulations Ordinance (UDC Chapter 177) and provides general urban forestry management for the city. The Urban Forester is also responsible for tree planting projects and the annual tree giveaway. The division makes recommendations to the Parks and Recreation and the Urban Forestry Advisory Boards. Additionally, the Park Planning and Urban Forestry Division works closely with the Parks Maintenance Division to develop and implement policies related to native vegetation, signage and sustainablility.
