Today, Fayetteville Police Chief and Chairman of the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force Greg Tabor, announced the arrest of two Fayetteville men for marijuana possession.

      On March 23rd, 2010, a Springdale canine officer and member of the 4th Judicial District Drug Task Force, working highway enforcement on I540 near West Fork, observed a vehicle traveling southbound, following another vehicle too close.  The officer conducted a traffic stop and during the course of the traffic stop, the officer used his canine to perform a sniff of the car.  The canine alerted, indicating the presence of narcotics in the car.  The vehicle was searched and during the search, officers located approximately 84 pounds of marijuana and two loaded hand guns.

     Arrested was Anthony Ray SMITH, black male, age 24 of Fayetteville and Jason Leon BUTLER, black male, age 24 of Fayetteville.  Both were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (marijuana) and Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms.

     There will be a viewing of the evidence today, March 24th, 2:00pm at the Fayetteville Police department briefing room.

           The Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force is comprised of Fayetteville, Springdale, University of Arkansas, Prairie Grove, Lincoln, Farmington, West Fork, Greenland, Johnson, Elm Springs, Elkins Police Departments and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
