Fayetteville Police Arrest Two for Murder

On Monday, January 5, 2008, at approximately 2:31 P.M., Fayetteville police officers responded to Washington Regional Medical Center to investigate a battery.  The victim, later identified as Kent Thomas Crigler, white male, age forty-nine, of Fayetteville, succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

The investigation into Crigler’s death led police to 969 Holly Street, Fayetteville, where it was determined a physical altercation occurred between Crigler and two other men.  Crigler was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center by a private vehicle following the altercation.

The investigation led police to search for Terry Don Lankford, white male, age thirty-six, of Fayetteville, and Cheyenne Cody Shinault, white male, age twenty-nine, of Fayetteville.  Police soon located both men in the area of Saw Grass and Village Lake Drive in Fayetteville.  They were each arrested for outstanding warrants.  During his arrest, Lankford attempted to flee.

The investigation revealed Lankford and Shinault were the two men involved in the altercation with Crigler before his death.  Both men were arrested for Murder, Second Degree.

This investigation is continuing.
