Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor announced today that four Fayetteville Police Officers graduated from the Northwest Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy.

On Friday, October 12, 2012, Officers Douglas Lurten, Ian White, Elisabeth Walter and Lonnie Gunter, graduated from the Northwest Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in Elm Springs.   The four began their career with the Fayetteville Police Department in June 2012 and started the academy on July 23, 2012.  While at the academy, they received instruction and practical application in the areas criminal investigation, collision investigation, firearms, non-deadly defensive tactics, officer safety techniques, traffic law, criminal law, civil liability and other legal aspects of law enforcement, first aid, crime prevention, crisis intervention, and cultural diversity.  After graduation, they will receive an additional week of training on Radar and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing before they begin an eighteen week Field Training Program.         

Two of the officers received awards based on their academic and physical fitness performance while at the academy.  Ian White placed third in academics and Lonnie Gunter placed third in physical fitness.    

The Fayetteville Police Department wants to congratulate these officers on their graduation and to wish them luck in the next phase of their training
