Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor announced today for citizens to beware of another scam that promises something for nothing.

In this case, the victim received an unsolicited phone call where the caller claimed to be with Publisher’s Clearing House and stated the victim had won a very large sum of money.  The caller requested that the victim go to a local business and purchased a Green Dot cash card for several hundred dollars as a transaction fee of his winnings.   The victim would then either drop off the card to a local representative or mail the card to a specific address.

Chief Tabor advises citizens beware of these get rich quick schemes.  Citizens are reminded not to give out personal information on the phone, through the mail of over the internet unless you have initiated the contact.  Beware of promotional scams or promises of lottery winnings that sound too good to be true.  Victims are also encouraged to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 479-587-3555.
