LOCAL MAN ARRESTED FOR RAPE
Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor announced today the arrest of a local man for rape that occurred December 30th, 2009.
On December 30th, 2009, a female victim came to the police department and reported that she had been raped. The victim reported she was walking home from work after midnight when a black male approached her and began talking to her and following her. She proceeded to walk to the EZ Mart on Garland Avenue hoping the suspect wouldn’t follow her. The suspect continued to follow her and talk to her. When she left she noticed a vehicle with another subject in it. The suspect told her to get into the vehicle and she complied because she felt intimidated. She was driven to an apartment on Oakland Avenue where she was sexually assaulted. The victim was finally able to get away and walked to a local restaurant where she asked for help.
Investigators were able to identify the suspect and located him on December 31st. The suspect was brought to the police department for an interview and subsequently arrested.
Arrested was Steven Geray MAHONE, black male, age 41 of Fayetteville. Mahone was charged with Rape.
The investigation is continuing.
