FAYETTEVILLE POLICE INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE

            Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor announced today the Fayetteville Police Department is investigating a homicide at 132 W. Sycamore Street.

            On Friday August 3, 2012, at approximately 1:41 A.M., Fayetteville Police responded to a report of a shooting at 132 West Sycamore Street.  John Christopher Short, the homeowner, was at the residence with his girlfriend and an acquaintance, Jonathan William Ball.  Ball had been staying with Short for several days.  During the course of the evening, Ball and Short began verbally arguing for several hours.  During this argument, Ball threatened to kill Short.   Short then went to his room and retrieved a rifle and ordered Ball to leave the residence.   Ball threatened to take the rifle and shoot Short.  Ball then grabbed the barrel of the rifle and there was a struggle.   Short was able to retain control of the rifle and fired one shot which struck Ball in the torso.   Ball was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center where he later died.  

            No arrests have been made and this case will be forwarded to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
