FAYETTEVILLE K-9 TEAMS RANK AMONG TOP PERFORMERS IN THE NATION

04/22/2011

The Fayetteville Police Department announced today their K-9 teams ranked among the very best at a National K-9 training seminar and competition.

The department’s two K-9 teams scored in the top 15 percent at the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association K-9 competition held in Houston, Texas earlier this month.  Corporal Kevin Carroll and his K-9 partner, Blecky, placed 7th out of approximately 118 national competitors and Corporal Jason McDaniel and his K-9 partner, Lennox, placed 18th.  The K-9s and their handlers were judged on their ability to work together as teams.  The handlers assessed their dogs’ reactions to drugs hidden in a room.  If the K-9s found the drugs then the handlers had to correctly interpret the dogs’ reaction to the presence of the odor of drugs.

These awards are highly coveted and are difficult to earn.  We are proud to announce that our K-9 teams ranked so highly among many worthy K-9 divisions from all over the United States.  In addition, Corporal McDaniel of our K-9 division is nationally recognized as a NNDDA K-9 team certifier, which is a distinction for the Fayetteville Police Department.  Corporal Robin Fields was named the 2011 NNDDA board President.  Please join us in congratulating them on a job well done.
