FAYETTEVILLE POLICE WARN OF FALL HAZARDS FOR SMALL CHILDREN

10/29/2013

Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor wants to advise citizens of the potential fall hazards small children face with open windows.

Over the past few months, there have been two separate instances where a child has fallen from open windows.   Fortunately, in both instances the children were not seriously injured.

Windows can present a significant fall risk. Furniture should be moved away from them so that climbing toddlers will not fall through.  Screens are not designed to be barriers and will not prevent falls.  Using home safety devices, such as guards on windows that are above ground level, can keep a busy, active child from taking a dangerous tumble.
