FAYETTEVILLE POLICE INVESTIGATE FALSE RAPE ALLEGATION
Fayetteville Police Chief Greg Tabor announced today the Fayetteville Police Department has concluded an investigation into a sexual assault report in west Fayetteville.
On July 30, 2013, the Fayetteville Police Department received a report from two women who claimed to have been attacked while walking on Wedington Drive. The women reported they were knocked unconscious and raped in a wooded area nearby. Fayetteville Police officers investigated the incident and found several inconsistencies in the victims’ stories. When confronted with the inconsistencies, both victims recanted their statements and admitted to making up the stories about being attacked and raped.
The Fayetteville Police Department takes these types of reports very seriously and will strive to provide our citizens with a safe and healthy community in which to live and work.
