Emergency Response Team
The Fayetteville Police Department established the Emergency Response Team (ERT) in 1987. The original team consisted of six officers. The team has gone through many changes since its formation. The team is currently multi-jurisdictional and has staffing for twelve Fayetteville officers and three Washington County Sheriff’s Department officers.
The Emergency Response Team is utilized in high-risk and emergency situations including service of narcotics warrants, hostage situations, barricaded subjects, arrests involving dangerous individuals, and other situations involving hazardous or dangerous conditions. The team is periodically utilized as a security contingent during dignitary visits and special events. The members of the Emergency Response Team train regularly in tactical methods and firearms proficiency.
