Extra Bag Stickers
In December, each single family household will be mailed 4 free extra bag stickers for 2013. The stickers are given to residents as part of the Pay As You Throw automated trash service. The stickers are to be used on excess bags of trash at any time through out the year to avoid the $6 extra bag charge for excess trash above the rim of the cart on trash service days.
Christmas Tree Recycling
Residents can set their live Christmas trees curbside on their regular service day for collection with the yardwaste program. Trees will be collected curbside during the month of January 2013. Residents can also bring their trees to the Compost site for free during normal operating hours (see hours below). All trees must be free from all plastic bags, stands, decorations, lights, and tinsel before they will be collected. No artificial trees will be collected curbside.
Fall leaf removal information
The City of Fayetteville does not remove leaves curbside with the City’s street sweeper. Homeowners are responsible to properly manage leaves through the yardwaste collection program. Leaves can be placed in 30 gallon paper bags purchased at local retail stores or in unlined trash cans marked "yardwaste". Collection occurs the same day as normal trash and recycling collection and it is highly recommended to place all carts, bins and yardwaste out the night before your service day. The Compost Facility can accept leaves, not in plastic bags, for free from Fayetteville residents. Information on "backyard composting" for leaves is available by calling Brian Pugh at 718-7685 or through e-mail at email@example.com.
Compost Facility Hours
The City’s Compost Facility at 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. is open during normal operating hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The site will be open on Saturday, December 1st and Saturday, January 5th from 8 a.m. to noon. Winter hours have begun, and the site will only be open the first Saturday of each month through March.
The Compost site will be closed for the Christmas Day and New Years holiday on Tuesday, December 25th and January 1st.
Residents of Fayetteville are allowed to drop off brush, leaves or grass during these hours but need to bring a recent water bill showing solid waste charges and proof of residency to drop off yard waste for free. Commercial landscapers and contractors are allowed to use the site for drop off purposes and normal fees apply.
Screened compost is currently not available so please check with the office at 575-8398 for when compost will be available. Only Fayetteville residents are allowed to purchase the compost and must show proof of residency through their water bill. No commercial customers or apartments are allowed to receive compost. Please bring a copy of a recent water bill showing solid waste charges for proof of residency. Residents will only be allowed to purchase one scoop for $20 plus tax when the compost is available. One scoop is approximately 2 cubic yards or enough to fill the bed of a regular size pick-up truck. Limiting to one scoop allows a chance for most residents to purchase the compost should they desire.
Transfer Station Hours
The City’s Transfer Station for the disposal of solid waste is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., excluding holidays. The Transfer Station will be closed to the public on Tuesday, December 25th for the Christmas holiday and will have modified hours of 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 24th.
Notice- There will be new fees for disposal beginning December 1st, 2012, due to a rate increase from the landfill. The new fees will be $42.55 per ton, $27.10 minimum, or $6 per bag.
Recycling Drop Off on S. Happy Hollow
The Solid Waste and Recycling Division operates a recycling drop-off center located just off 15th St. on S. Happy Hollow Road. The site is open 24 hours a day / 7 days a week to provide convenient recycling options. Volunteer groups are being sought to work a few hours on Saturdays to clean the site and provide education to those wishing to recycle. Please contact Brian Pugh at 718-7685 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
