Marion Orton Recycling Drop Off Center Grand Opening set for Saturday, October 26th
Grand Opening ceremony set for 10 am
The new Marion Orton Recycling Drop-Off Center Grand Opening will be held at the Center on Saturday, October 26, at 10:00 a.m., and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. The Marion Orton Recycling Drop-Off Center is located at 735 W. North Street in Fayetteville. This event will celebrate this new facility for Fayetteville and the legacy of Marion Orton, a Fayetteville Mayor from the 1970’s who is largely credited with beginning recycling programs in Fayetteville.
This Grand Opening will be a festive event and will include the revealing of the City’s new recycling campaign called Recycle Something and introduce Rooty the recycling mascot, provide educational material and touring opportunities, the presence of 104.9 The X radio station, hot chocolate and coffee will be provided by Ozark Natural Foods, and there will be promotional items on hand to give away! Parking for this event will be located next door to the Marion Orton Recycling Drop-Off Center at Rouse Family Medical located at 767 W. North Street.
The Grand Opening ceremony will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with remarks from Mayor Lioneld Jordan, close friend of Marion Orton and her colleague in various non-profit organizations University of Arkansas Assistant Vice Provost Mary Alice Serafini, City of Fayetteville Recycling Drop Off Attendant Jeff Brenaman, and City of Fayetteville Waste Reduction Coordinator Brian Pugh.
This new recycling center will allow the City to expand the goal of supplying more convenient recycling options for residents and businesses and will send materials to recycling markets for beneficial use while diverting materials away from the landfill. The new site has recycling containers for all the materials currently collected in the residential curbside program, including: cardboard, paper board (cereal boxes, shoe boxes, etc.), mixed paper, newspaper, plastic #1 bottles, plastic #2 bottles, steel cans, aluminum cans and all colors of glass bottles and jars.
The Marion Orton Recycling Center is the second recycling drop off center operated by the City of Fayetteville. The City has a 24 hour, 7 day-a-week recycling drop off center located near the Solid Waste and Recycling Operations facility at 1560 S. Happy Hollow Road. There is an additional recycling drop off sponsored by Ozark Natural Foods located in the Evelyn Hills shopping center. The Marion Orton Recycling Center is open each week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The site is closed on Sundays. The site will have a Recycling Attendant present to answer recycling and solid waste questions and assist with public education about these services.
The new location is centrally-located and close to many apartment complexes and will provide a convenient opportunity for apartment residents and also commercial businesses to recycle materials from their homes and offices.
