Question

How does the Future Land Use Map inform zoning decisions?

Answer

The Future Land Use Map is used as a template for anticipated future growth patterns. Planners utilize the Future Land Use Map (FLUM) as a tool to help inform them on how current zoning proposals relate to the long range City Plan 2025 goals. The FLUM is updated every five years with the City Plan and Master Transportation Plan update. The FLUM is one of many tools that planners use when evaluating zoning decisions. Additional tools and criteria that planners utilize for zoning recommendations would include; transportation and traffic, determinations of compatibility, environmental concerns and the availability of existing infrastructure such as water, sewer and streets.
