Bike Rack Art Request for Proposals

06/10/2009

The City of Fayetteville is requesting proposals for a bike rack art project to be located in front of the new District Courts building being constructed on the corner of Rock St. and Church Ave.

This project will emphasize the balance between form and function by creating two artful bicycle parking racks. A total of two bike rack sculptures will be selected with a budget of $1400 per sculpture, which includes artist/design fees, materials and construction. Artists may submit multiple applications. Each bike rack shall be capable of having two bicycles attached with either a standard U-shaped lock or cable lock.

A selection committee will be composed of various stakeholders including representatives of the City of Fayetteville, City Council, Arts Council, District Court Judge, Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks and a working artist. The committee will select one or two artists (or artist teams) to review proposals and possibly conduct interviews.

Applications can be downloaded at www.accessfayetteville.org and are due by July 2, 2009. Questions or comments may be submitted to Leif Olson, Associate Planner, at lolson@ci.fayetteville.ar.us or by phone at 575-8269.
