In June of 2009 Strategic Planning staff helped to develop an RFP for artist-designed bike racks to be placed in front of the new District Court building at Rock Street and Church Avenue.
Of the eleven proposals submitted, two bike rack sculptures were selected, with a budget of $1400 per sculpture, which included artist/design fees, materials and construction. The selection committee awarded the bid to BICI out of Brooklyn, NY. (Please see pictures below of the artists at work creating the bike racks.) The two pieces, a "scales of justice," and a rack with attached seating, were installed in November.
The selection committee was composed of various stakeholders including representatives of the City of Fayetteville, City Council, Arts Council, District Court Judge, Bicycle Coalition of the Ozarks and a working artist.
