Sustainable Yard Ordinance

City Council passed Ordinance No. 52-50 on July 7, 2009, which encourages the cultivation of sustainable yards by allowing exemptions to mowing and weed treatment policies through sustainable landscaping.
The use of naturalistic plantings and native plants in managed landscapes is economical, reduces runoff and maintenance, and effectively conserves water, soil, and other elements of the natural community. Moreover, the preservation, restoration, and management of native plant communities and wildlife habitats may preclude the introduction of toxic pesticides, fertilizers, and other pollutants into the environment.
