The Transportation division provides the maintenance, construction, safety and operation of city streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, traffic and trail construction programs. We strive each day to provide better service to the citizens of Fayetteville than we did the day before. The division works with many other divisions within the city such as Engineering and Planning to provide the best quality of service possible. The division consists of 65 full time employees and 10 part time employees.
The Transportation Division currently maintains approximately 400 miles of streets as well as 300 miles of sidewalks. They are also responsible for 200 miles of drainage ditches. Expansion of the city trails program is construction by the Transportation Division, however maintenance is provided by the Parks and Recreation Division.
In addition to the maintenance and construction performed by the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division, the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department performs similar work on state roads,
routes, interstates and right-of-ways that run through the Fayetteville city limits. These areas are not maintained by the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division. State routes and interstates within the City of Fayetteville include I-540 and its access roads, Hwy 265, Hwy 45, Hwy 112 and Hwy 112 Spur, Hwy 16E & 16W, Hwy 62, Hwy 180, Hwy 156, Hwy 71 and Hwy 71 Business. Traffic Signals are the only exception and are maintained by the City of Fayetteville Transportation Division within the Traffic Program. To find out about construction and maintenance or to report a concern on State roads, routes and interstates you should contact the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department at (479) 251-9266.
