Asphalt Overlay Plans for Week of October 25, 2010

10/21/2010

City asphalt crews will be working in several areas Oct 25th-29th.

An asphalt overlay is the application of a layer of paving to an existing paved surface. This adds structural capacity and smoothness of ride while improving the exterior appearance. Other benefits include enhanced safety because tripping hazards are minimized, dust control is enhanced and maintenance time is reduced. Asphalt milling is the process of grinding up asphalt that can then be recycled.

On Monday, October 25th, the Transportation Division will mill Salem Road between Wedington and Timberline. Salem Road’s overlay will be completed on Tuesday, October 26th. Kelly Street and Hazel Street will be milled on Wednesday, October 27th and overlay will be complete on Thursday, October 28th. The Division will conduct spot repairs on McConnell Avenue on Friday, October 29th. Traffic will move slower in these areas.  Allow extra time.

Please drive carefully in these areas and watch for workers and machinery.
