One-of-a-kind shopping, historic neighborhoods, exciting nightlife, live local music and fine arts, a nationally-recognized state-of-the-arts public library, sporting events, community theatre, 71 public parks, fishing and boating, and free community concerts are available. In addition to the exciting events in the city, Fayetteville's location in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, plus the lakes, rivers, hiking and biking trails are a wonderful scenic adventure for people who enjoy the outdoors.

You can travel around town easily in a variety of ways. Razorback Transit offers free bus transportation for students and local residents, and Ozark Regional Transit has bus routes throughout key areas of the city. Fayetteville also has miles of a very popular and award-winning trail system for pedestrians and bicyclists. Public transportation is also available regionally, such as bus routes that run to and from Northwest Arkansas Community College and the University of Arkansas.

Southeastern Conference sporting events, Broadway shows, world leaders--you never know who will be stopping by for a visit. Popular annual events include Springfest, Lights of the Ozarks, Solar Splash, the Joe Martin Bicycle Stage Race, the Annual Washington County Historical Society Ice Cream Social, and the fastest-growing motorcycle rally in the world Bikes, Blues & BBQ. Come check out the monthly First Thursday Arts Walk on the Historic Downtown Square at 5:30 p.m. the first Thursday of every month.

Community volunteer opportunities abound in Fayetteville. For the past three years, Fayetteville residents were honored statewide as an Arkansas Volunteer Community of the Year. We pride ourselves on active citizen involvement and lively debates on public issues. In addition, numerous Fayetteville citizen boards, committees, commissions, and Fayetteville Forward Action Groups consist of community volunteers devoted to giving their time and sharing their expertise on a variety of issues, such as animal welfare, planning and development, environmental action, economic development, transportation, historic preservation, parks and trails, sustainability, arts, education, and the public library.

The City also has a Facebook page, an electronic newsletter and a blog, live streamed City Council meetings and an archive of on-line meetings, plus a free subscription e-mail notification service on various topics upon request through the City Clerk's office.
