Cancellation Notice of Police Officer Test on Saturday, January 30, 2010

Due to anticipated inclement winter weather and possible poor travel conditions, the entry level Police Officer Test scheduled for Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Judy Mackey Center has been canceled.

All applications received for the January test date will now be considered as received for the next test scheduled for May 22, 2010.

Solid Waste and Recycling suspending operations due to inclement weather

Due to the ice storm and treacherous road conditions the City of Fayetteville Solid Waste and Recycling Division has suspended all solid waste and recycling collections for the remainder of the week of January 24th through the 30th. All residential and commercial collections will resume if road conditions allow on Monday, February 1st 2010. All residential collections were completed for the week and only commercial collections usually serviced on Friday’s and Saturday’s will be affected by the inclement weather conditions.

Severe winter weather is scheduled to hit Fayetteville tonight, For information this weekend during the storm regarding shelters or the need for non-emergency assistance, you may contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 587-3555, and press 1 for Dispatch. If you are worried about a family member and cannot get out to check on him/her, call the Police Department Dispatch at 587-3555 and press 1 for Dispatch. The City of Fayetteville has designated and prepared shelters, and when word is received from Washington County Emergency Management and/or the Red Cross to open a shelter, those shelters will be open on an as-needed basis. The first shelter that is scheduled to open after call volumes meet the minimum requirements for shelter is the Donald W. Reynolds Boys and Girls Club. This information will be provided to the public once that shelter has been designated to open.

Comments received from the public meeting will be reviewed and discussed with the Fayetteville Street Committee on Tuesday, January 26th at 5:15 P.M. in Room 326 of City Hall. Fayetteville waste and recycling collections suspended for remainder of week.

Due to the extreme cold and poor road conditions the City of Fayetteville Solid Waste and Recycling Division has suspended all solid waste, recycling and yard waste collections for the remainder of the week. All collections will resume on Monday, January 11th. With the wind chill temperatures currently being experienced and predicted, the risk of exposure to frost bite and safety of the Solid Waste and Recycling workers is of great concern as their jobs require them to be outside and exposed to wet conditions.
